I intended to have requested to see Y. E. during my stay in town on the long pending question of the commercial convention, but learning from Mr. Huskisson that the projet»), which he put into Y.E.'s hand in my presence some few months ago and which was afterwards sent officially to Y. E., has not been returned to him by Y. E., as I hoped it might have been either with the signification of the concurrence of your government or with such observations as Y. E. might have to suggest upon it, Mr. Huskisson and I have agreed that the best course to be taken would be to request Y. E. to have the goodness to favour him or me with a communication of the decision of your government upon the proposed stipulations of that projet.
Mr. Huskisson has left town. I am about to follow him to-day. We shall be together at his house in Sussex for the next week, so that Y. E. may depend upon an immediate reply to any communication, which we may receive from you during that period.
By this mode we hope that the convention may be ready for signature by the end of this month, by which time both Mr. Huskisson and I shall have returned to town.
